12: Bayesian Inversion of Seabed Scattering Data
نویسندگان
چکیده
The long-term goals of this work are to improve ocean acoustic reverberation modeling and sonar performance predictions in shallow waters by developing inversion procedures to estimate seabed scattering and geoacoustic properties with uncertainties, as well as investigating the importance of various scattering processes. Important issues include: investigating the angular and frequency dependence of scattering (defining the scattering kernel), determining the dependence of scattering on physical properties of the seabed, and establishing the relative importance between scattering due to rough boundaries at the seafloor and sub-bottom interfaces or at volume inhomogeneities. These issues are all key to the ability to invert scattering and/or reflection data for seabed geoacoustic and scattering parameters, and ultimately to the practical inversion of active source reverberation data for rapid environmental assessment applications.

متن کاملBayesian Seismo-Acoustic Inversion to Investigate Spatial Variability and Uncertainty of Shallow Water Sediments
Propagation and reverberation of acoustic fields in shallow waters depend strongly on the spatial variability of seabed geoacoustic parameters, and lack of knowledge of seabed variability is often a limiting factor in acoustic modeling applications. However, direct sampling (e.g., coring) of vertical and lateral variability is expensive and laborious, and matched-field and other long-range inve...

متن کاملBayesian geoacoustic inversion using wind-driven ambient noise.
This paper applies Bayesian inversion to bottom-loss data derived from wind-driven ambient noise measurements from a vertical line array to quantify the information content constraining seabed geoacoustic parameters. The inversion utilizes a previously proposed ray-based representation of the ambient noise field as a forward model for fast computations of bottom loss data for a layered seabed. ...
متن کاملBayesian Ambient Noise Inversion for Geoacoustic Uncertainty Estimation
Estimation of seabed geoacoustic parameters in shallow water by remote sensing remains a challenging task due to constraints on hardware, data collection and analysis, and cost of maritime surveys. This work focuses on the application of two techniques that might offer a solution to those constraints: the use of ambient noise to probe the seabed, and Bayesian inversion of these data to estimate...
